Book Sea Swept (Chesapeake Bay Book 1) Review :

Overall Sea Swept was an enjoyable read. The setting was peaceful and lent itself to a very comforting sense of home and family. The characters were multidimensional, yet had a real, natural quality that made them easy to fall in love with. The constant change of POV was a bit jarring at first. Three different perspectives were on a single page (if not more), and thus a great deal of rereading was necessary to determine who was thinking or talking. Even at the end I’m not sure how I feel about that approach. One on hand, I liked being able get an idea of everyone’s feelings in the room without jumping in and out of subsections. On the other, I can’t recall how many people’s thoughts were coming across, from the random lady in the grocery store to the insurance investigator, it just got to be a little much at times. I just wasn’t used to one person’s inner dialogue popping up after someone else’s thought the line before.I really connected with these guys. The author’s note at the beginning described her life and connection with the men in it, and I think she did a fantastic job creating characters that span a wide scope of, very believable, personalities. Dynamic, real, decent deep down, loyal despite their flaws, pretty respectable (albeit Cam the least likely of the group) dudes.Cam and Anna’s relationship was enjoyable, but not captivating enough to be locked into intimate moments. Even during the love scenes I felt detached without the exciting anticipation- they lacked chemistry and passion. It just felt like a lot of the steamy, heart pounding, exciting buildup was missing. Spontaneity was out the window when they pretty much admitted their attraction, laying everything out on the table from the beginning.Main criticisms: Anna and Cam’s foundation to their relationship was unrealistic. Someone of Anna’s character wouldn’t have allowed an affair with a potential caregiver who could complicate the life of a child under her supervision. A major conflict of interests, a judge would rule against any of her reports or suggestions simply due to her personal involvement. It’s highly doubtful she would make such a bad decision, seeing that she’s pretty levelheaded and professional - much less openly spend the night at Cam’s house with the child she is responsible for present. Also, the profanity is extremely high.Ironically, I chose this because it was categorized as a romance, so it was unexpected to actually be drawn more to the storyline away from the romance. I was surprised to find myself really interested in the social services and foster care aspects, a theme that has, honestly, not been part of my repertoire before, along with the boating world. And, I really connected with Seth, as well as the other three men, and was rooting for him and his brothers from the beginning.
This is Cameron Quinn's book. He lives in speed; races, cars, women. And he loves the fast forward lifestyle he has in Europe, or anywhere in any country he chooses. He first grew up in a bad neighborhood in a horrible living situation with his mom. He got in trouble more times than he can count. He is also the first adopted son of Stella and Ray Quinn. They have changed his world and made it better. They have helped to create the opportunities he has now in his life. He owes everything to them.Cameron's first dilemma is running home to his dying father, Ray, when he hears word. Ray has left pieces of his life unsettled, his finances, his newest adopted son Seth, and mostly, his other older adopted sons. His first compromise is moving home to be with all his brothers, and caring for Seth.Seth is 10-yrs old and doesn't know who to trust, or what is expected of him. But he is on the look out, and he is ready to run at first instinct.Cameron has to find the patience and stability needed to become guardian over Seth, and deal with his other brothers and his father's leftover shambles. What he isn't prepared for, is the deliciously intriguing Ms. Anna Spinelli, Seth's social worker. He has never met anyone like her, and he intends to find out why she is so different. And he has to determine why she is becoming so special to him when every other woman has been in and out of his life so fast in what seems like another life.First he needs to find the balance of working with her for Seth's own wellbeing.I loved the dynamics of Cameron and his brothers. And I liked the fact that Nora takes us on a ride of survival that we find we are all fighting for the same cause.
